About this issue
expand_more
The Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency, uses its own currency, the Manx pound (IMP), alongside the British pound sterling (GBP). Although the Manx pound is pegged at par with the British pound, Manx coins and notes are distinct in design and are a key part of the Isle of Man's rich heritage and identity.
Manx coins are issued in the same denominations as their British counterparts: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, and £2. These coins are widely recognized for their unique designs, which often feature symbols of the Isle of Man’s history, culture, and wildlife.
Key Features of Manx Coins:
- Designs: Manx coins showcase various aspects of the island's heritage, including the famous Manx triskelion (three legs emblem), the TT races, and local wildlife such as the Manx cat.
- Circulation: Manx coins are legal tender within the Isle of Man but are not widely accepted outside the island. However, they are often collected by numismatists worldwide due to their distinctive designs.
- Production: The coins are minted under the authority of the Isle of Man Government.
