John Harrison Life & Inventions Presentation Pack

The John Harrison: Life & Inventions Presentation Pack, from Isle of Man Post Office, brings together all six stamps in a specially presented collection exploring the life and work of one of history’s great horological innovators. The accompanying content provides context for the objects featured, from Harrison’s early wooden clocks to the marine timekeepers that transformed navigation.

The stamps include Harrison’s H1, his 1713 wooden clock and 1726 wooden regulator, alongside a portrait, a 17th century French cannon linked to the wreck of HMS Association, and a terrestrial table globe dating from around 1640.

Curated in partnership with inventor and horologist Dr John C Taylor OBE, the issue explores Harrison’s pursuit of precision, detailing the innovations and advancements that demonstrated a practical mechanical solution to longitude was possible.
