About this issue

Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Snake withthis set of four stamps beautifully illustrated by local artist Jo Davies. The 2025 Year of the Snake is the latest instalment in our ongoing series markingthe Chinese Lunar New Year.

Jo Davies writes…

2025 is the year of the Wood Snake and the artwork in this collection reflects the symbols associated with the snake, combined with those traditionally used incelebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. The snake symbolises light and dark andis believed to offer protection from negative forces. It sheds its skin andappears to have been reborn and is often associated in cultures withtransformation and rebirth.

EachChinese New Year corresponds to one of the five elements from Chinese culture;earth, wood, fire, water and metal. These are drawn from Wu Xing, a philosophy which describes the relationship andinterdependence of all things to create balance that is symbolised by Yin andYang. Flowersare used as gifts and decorations in the Chinese New Year, and they featurelavishly across this collection of stamps to celebrate joy, prosperity, hopeand renewal across the world. These stamps celebrate these themes to deliverpositive messages for the year ahead.

When I have telephoned customer services, excellent and very informative

I have collected Manx stamps since Postal Independence in 1973. In all of this time, I have never failed to be amazed at the wide range of subjects covered and by the sheer quality of their designs and presentation.
